The 240V PowerCool W300 is designed to work with any older Everlast unit with the triangular plug connection (IEC 60320-1 C-13) located at the rear of the unit. It is recommended for up to 350A welding. However, the PowerCool W300 does not stack or or integrate with the welder physically. The unit must be placed beside the welder or be installed on a separate shelf over or under the welder. The unit features standard B Type-9mm color-coded quick connect couplings that can be used directly with any Everlast water-cooled TIG or MIG torch without any need for adapters. Also included are water-cooler line extensions. These are there if you need extra length to be added to the torch so that a strain free connection can be made if the water-cooler has to be installed in a separate location. The audible and flashing cooler alarm helps to alert users if a torch line becomes kinked or blocked, or even if the unit looses proper circuilation. In the case of some low-flow torches that may trigger the cooler alarm, the cooler alarm can be de-armed (turned-off). The unit features a copper core heat exchanger, Italian industrial sealed motor and Italian stainless pump with bronze impeller that are designed for years of use. Many competitors use all aluminum piping for heat exchangers and low quality motors and pumps in comparison. This unit features direct shaft drive of fan, pump and motor. There are no belts, or pulleys to wear out or replace.

This unit operates on 240V only. While operating with any Dual-Voltage welder, this unit should be unplugged and removed from service while the welder is operating on 120V because the outlet in the rear of the welder provides only 120V while connected to a 120V outlet. Operating the cooler on 120V may cause damage to the cooler which is not covered under warranty.

Everlast is aware that some customers may be using various types of coolant in their PowerCool Water Coolers and with our NOVA or other brand TIG torches. These range from distilled water to Isopropyl alcohol to automotive type anti-freeze to R.V. anti-freeze to “private concoctions”. Since the PowerCool product line was originally released many years ago we’ve gathered valuable data and gained experience concerning the use of coolants and their impact on both the lifespan of the cooler and the TIG torches themselves. With that said, there are several areas of concern in regards to selecting the proper coolant. We have found that most popular alternatives fail to provide satisfactory performance. We have taken our findings and concerns and listed them below as basic elementary requirements needed for best performance and product life.

Our concerns about TIG water cooler coolants are:

It is for these reasons, that Everlast is now recommending that customers ONLY use commercial brand coolants designed for use with TIG welders with a rating for use with High Frequency (H.F.). IF using for MIG, low conductivity is not a requirement, but it is recommended to find a coolant safe for use with Aluminum as some MIG guns contain aluminum parts, especially push-pull systems. If using for both MIG and TIG, be sure to use a coolant specifying compatability with both processes. These coolants will usually include statements or information regarding the concerns listed above.

It is also for this reason, that coolers, torches, cables and related accessories will only be warrantied if used with commercial branded coolants made specifically for TIG or MIG welders.

Some commercial coolants for welder coolers are for use with MIG or Plasma only. Be aware and read the label because not all coolants are compatible for any process as some MIG coolants offer compatibility with aluminum water-cooled MIG gun parts. Some TIG coolants may work fine with some Plasma and MIG applications where no aluminum is present (except with push-pull guns) without crossover issues. Off-types, personal blends, and internet popularized alternatives can and will lead to damage or problems with operation. Be assured ignorning this will lead to problems down the road.

Yes, we know that commercial coolants are expensive. You will pay considerably more for 2 gallons of commercially branded TIG water-cooler coolant (the average required to fill one of our coolers) that a regular automotive type of coolant. At this point, after investing anywhere between $1500 to $5000+ dollars in a welding machine, cooler, and torches, this is a small price to pay and is what we feel to be a reasonable amount to protect a much more expensive investment. Warranty claims cost everyone money and time lost.

Question: What about Distilled water? Can I use it?

Answer: Distilled/De-ionized water, while non-conductive and fairly inoffensive as a possible coolant solution, does not provide algae protection, and requires frequent exchanging. It offers no lubricants or conditioner for the pump or torch hoses. Nor does it provide any anti-freeze solution. It is to be used only for testing, temporary, or emergency use. It should not be used for more than a period of three to four weeks before proper coolant is sourced and should be replaced. In and of itself, it will not damage the cooler, but distilled water does not promote maximum cooler protection noe offers best torch life. It does not protect the torch components from dry rot. Over time, due to contamination, it slowly becomes increasingly conductive. If for any reason the proper coolant cannot be found locally or ordered, and distilled or deionized water is the only option, be sure to exchange the water on a monthly basis.

Question: What Brand do you recommend?

Answer: While we are hesitant to endorse one product like this over the other or demand that any one brand of coolant be used, commercial brands like Prax-Air, Air-Gas, Miller, ITW, and Lincoln all provide satisfactory coolants that address the concerns above. There may be others. But extremely low priced coolants, or off brands may not not provide the level of protection required. Again, read the label before purchasing and using. Use due diligence in selecting your coolant.

Question: What about automotive coolant? It is the same stuff according to the MSDS.

Answer: No. An MSDS only gives certain information about type, hazards etc. It is not an exhaustive list of everything that is in it. Automotive Antifreeze should NEVER be used of any type. Yes, some welder manufacturers have recommended it in the past, but times have changed and so have their recommendations and materials used.

Question: RV coolant/Automotive Coolant is the same color. Why can’t I use it just because it is cheaper? Isn’t it the same?

Answer: Do not rely upon color or price to dictate your buying choice. This does not mean they are the same exact product.

Question: Can I use a 50/50 mix of TIG Coolant and Distilled water? Or can I mix brands?

Answer: Typically, no. Most are premixed and should be used without mixing any additional or combining with other types. However, read the directions of the manufacturer and follow them.
